Obituary of William Neway, Sr.
William E. Neway, Sr. (affectionately know as Pop Pop), age 92, passed away peacefully on February 21, 2019 in his home in Susquehanna Township.
He was born on November 8, 1926 in Bossardsville, PA to Edward L. Neway and Florence Halstead Neway. He served as an electrician in the United States Navy aboard the USS Benson from 1944 - 1946. Upon his return, he secured employment with Bell Atlantic and on September 16, 1950 married Angela Frinzi of Philipsburg, NJ. While residing in New Jersey, William volunteered as an EMT with the local ambulance squad, was a member of the local Grand Lodge and a lifetime member of the Telephone Pioneers of America.
In 1967, they moved to Harrisburg and he continued his work with Bell of Pennsylvania as a Lineman and ending his career of 40 years as a Supervisor. Upon his retirement, he worked for HandR Block as a tax preparer for 15 years, at Royer Flowers for 3 years and volunteered on his local library board, the Board of Directors for Dauphin County Area Agency on Aging and as a tax consultant for AARP for 25 years.
He enjoyed cooking, baking, reading, traveling, bowling, and spending time with his grandkids and great-grandkids. A yearly family vacation to the beach with the whole family was always met with great anticipation and enjoyed for many years.
He is pre-deceased by his infant daughter, Rosalin Neway and is survived by his wife of 68 years, Angela Neway; his daughter, Beverly Neway of MD; son, William Neway, Jr. and wife Evelyn, FL; daughter, Pamela Sielaff and husband Bruno, III and daughter-in-law, Janet Neway. Also surviving are his cousins, Peggy Fenstermacher, Jill Shukaitis, Jeanne Maiden; six grandchildren, William Neway, III, FL, Michael Neway, PA, Ashley Neway, CA, Bruno Sielaff, IV, PA, Olivia Sielaff Bardella, NC and Benjamin Sielaff, MD; six great-grandchildren, Brandon Neway, Madeline Neway, Simone Neway, Ava Neway, Aristotle Sielaff and Audrey Bardella.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 26, 2019 at 12:00 pm in Wiedeman Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 2253 Derry Street, Harrisburg, with the Very Rev. Neil S. Sullivan, VF, Officiating. Burial at the conclusion of services will be held in Holy Cross Cemetery, Swatara Twp., A viewing will be held on Tuesday from 11:00 am - 12:00 pm in the funeral home.
