Obituary of James Mihailoff
James P. Mihailoff passed away July 29, 2019 at Masonic Village in Elizabethtown, PA, after a very long and valiant struggle with Parkinson's Disease. He was born May 2, 1944, in Steelton, PA, to the late Peter and Stefka Mihailoff.
Jim was a graduate of Steelton-Highspire High School and North Carolina State University where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Arts and was a member of the Wolfpack football team. After university, he served in the US Army spending three years in Bangkok, Thailand, in the Army Signal Corps.
He began his career in private industry with Bethlehem Steel Corp. rising through the Loop program to sales management at corporate headquarters in Bethlehem, PA. Upon retiring from Bethlehem Steel, he continued his career in sales management with Progress Rail Services Corporation. Jim was well known and respected in the steel and railroad industries both nationwide and abroad and was a mentor to young persons beginning their careers.
Jim loved golfing, horse racing, and reading and was always up for a new experience. He would never say no to a single malt and good cigar. He was very proud of his Macedonian heritage and kept the traditions going. He especially loved the music and dancing and was never happier that leading a kolo and participating in songfests at national conventions. Jim was a member of the former Holy Annunciation Macedonian Bulgarian Eastern Orthodox Church in Steelton and continued his spiritual life as a member of St. Nicholas Serbian Eastern Orthodox Church, Oberlin.
Surviving are his wife, Diana Lubic Mihailoff; son and daughter, Matthew and Alexis, and their mother Maria Mihailoff of Bethlehem; brother,Vasil Mihailoff (Carol); niece, Vasilka Mihailoff; step-daughter, Hilary Donovan Smith (Johnathan); and step-grandchildren Ava Rose and Quinn Smith; brother-in-law, Theodore Lubic (Terry); and several more nieces and nephews..
The family thanks the staff at Masonic Health Care Center for the care and friendship extended to Jim.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, August 2, 2019 at 12:30 pm in St. Nicholas Serbian Eastern Orthodox Church, Oberlin with Rev. Christopher Rocknage, his Pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Churchville Cemetery, Oberlin. A viewing will be held on Friday from 11:00 am until 12:30 pm in his church. Arrangements are being handled by Wiedeman Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Steelton.
