Grave markers are manufactured in Solid Bronze or Solid Granite and are installed at the head or foot of the grave on a concreted or granite base which then sits on a concrete footer installed by the cemetery. These markers are flush with the ground and are the only style permitted in some cemeteries. There are many choices of print styles, and options with personalization. These markers may be purchased from a reputable monument dealer. Installation is done by the dealer.
Monuments are an above ground means of remembrance. The size of the monument is dictated by the cemetery. The larger the lot (# of graves), the larger the monument is permitted. All monuments are set on a concrete footer installed by the cemetery. Today, there are many colors and variety of stone from which monuments are designed. You have extensive choices with personalization as well as many styles, types and size of engraving. Vases for flowers can be incorporated into your final selection. Most reputable monument dealers have indoor selection rooms that contain full size monuments to help you decide.
Monuments and markers generally take 2-3 months for installation. Monuments and Markers are generally not installed when the ground is frozen, as the concrete footer will freeze and when the ground thaws, the footer will sink.
Engraving name, dates, etc., on monuments is not done in the winter. When engraving dates of death during sub-freezing weather, the monument will chip because of the heat created by the engraving on a frozen stone.
If you have already purchased a marker or monument and need to have your loved ones name and date engraved after the death occurs, simply contact the monument company, have the lot and grave information available and they will assist you.
Our funeral home can provide a temporary grave marker, which includes the name of the deceased, date of birth and date of death for the interim until a permanent marker is selected. The cost for a temporary marker is $27.00. Please note, some cemeteries do not allow temporary markers accept for their own.
There is a wide range of prices which are determined by the size, material and engraving on a marker or monument. Our funeral home does not handle ordering or arranging for engraving. This is the responsibility of the family.
